tall. Shachat found solutions like frosting the bottom of the husband’s shaving mirror so that the lady of the house needn’t be faced with her own reflection while showering. Shachat also placed a dressing table be- tween the vanities. “It brings a furniture-like element to the space and gives our client a place to sit and put on makeup,” she ex- plains. But in the dressing room, her favorite elements were the rich finish materials she used: “gray-stained sycamore millwork, nick- el-and-leather hardware, silver-backed grass cloth wallcovering, thick wool carpeting and oversize perforated tin light fixtures.” Their richness helped scale the voluminous space to a more personal level by “quietly demand- ing your attention,” she says.
