GPS Living Fall 2022

This Fall finally feels like the return to normalcy that we have all craved for the last two and a half years. COVID and the effects of COVID are not gone, but they have become a somewhat more normal part of our daily lives. Kids are back in schools, and employees are settling into their new normals of returning to the office as their families figure out this new cadence. Pricing of commodities and finished goods in the home building space has been a challenge over the last year, but we are starting to see this dynamic moderate as we come into the final stretch of 2022. Despite what other parts of the country might be seeing, the Northeast still has a strong appetite for new construction and remodeling—including would-be homeowners looking for condos, existing homes, or single-family new construction.

As more homeowners continue to put significant upgrades into their existing and new homes, this issue highlights the “Jewelry of the Home” (GPS – page 16) with all the patterns, textures, finishes, and hardware that add a little extra pop to your space. For that next level of creature comfort and home form and function, our article “Say Spa” (GPS – page 25) explores the best in creating your own personal oasis with features such as steam showers and hydrotherapy. You will also find a comprehensive guide for going through the cabinetry selection process for your a kitchen or bath project. We showcase several industry-best lines of cabinetry designed for all parts of the home and have certified cabinetry designers on staff to help with your project (GPS – page 22). In this issue’s pages, we also spotlight two of our designers: Ada Saharig (GPS – page 31) and Amanda Rodriguez (Kohler – page 8). All of our designers, experience ongoing product knowledge training across categories and vendors, including plumbing, lighting, hardware, and even tile at our Kohler Signature Store locations. So they are ready to discuss what you’ll find in “Raw Materials” (Kohler – Page 4), including the newest products from Kohler Company across a variety of brands: Statement & Anthem showering, the Tone and Riff collections, new collections and colors from Ann Sacks, and Robern Murray Hill medicine cabinets. We’d also like to acknowledge the recent passing of Herb Kohler, chairman of Kohler Company. Mr. Kohler was one of the great innovators in our industry, is well known for creating the “Bold Look of Kohler,” and guided his company on the trajectory it follows today. Kohler is one of our best-in-class brands; Mr. Kohler’s legacy will live on in the worlds where he made his mark. Kohler doesn’t do anything casually; when they create businesses, their aim is to make an impact. This echoes the way Mr. Kohler led his life and his company: succeeding in the decorative bath and kitchen industry; power systems/engines; hospitality (hotels, resorts, several of the world’s best golf courses); and even chocolate. He will be missed, but his footprint and the strength of the Kohler brand endure. One last noteworthy section is on things to see and do in the Oranges. After visiting our Orange, NJ showroom, stop by this selection of sights, sounds, and bites: Bistro d’Azur, The Fox and Falcon, Edison Museum, South Orange Performing Arts Center, and the not-to-be-missed Turtle Back Zoo. Thanks for reading—we are truly honored to be a part of your home’s next project. Best,

Justin Freedman, President
