Stairway to Heaven Salvador Dalí was one of the most captivating and challenging artists of the 20th century. The exhibit Stairway to Heaven: Salvador Dali’s The Divine Comedy featured 101 wood-block engravings made from Dali’s original watercolors. Dali found inspiration for these work in the Italian Medieval poet Dante Alighieri’s epic poem The Divine Comedy. River is the Road The 40 original works in this exhibit explored the unique ways the legendary Louisiana artist George Rodrigue used the river as a reference to his Cajun heritage and, ultimately, as a metaphor for the journey of life. The paintings, pastels and sculptures in this exhibit included landscapes and works from Rodrigue’s Cajun and Blue Dog series. I find Monthaven an inspiring place. As an artist, Monthaven has offered me an opportunity to try new mediums and learn about the business of art. They have musical performances, conversations about art and beautiful exhibits which include both local artists and internationally known artists. We are fortunate to have them in our area. – Saundra
