It was a busy year for the MACC’s FREE Between the Lines (BTL) healing arts program for military veterans. BTL empowers veterans in Middle Tennessee who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), major depressive disorder and isolation. In 2024, we created our first healing arts space at American Legion Post 17 Veterans Residence in Gallatin. The MACC also purchased a trailer for our new BTL mobile classroom and added a third class at the Veterans Recovery Center in

Murfreesboro. The National Endowment for the Arts recognized the MACC’s Between the Lines program with a Creative Forces Grant.

This group asks us to do interesting projects to extract our inner thoughts and try ways we've never painted...they bring out of me emotions I didn't know I had. The creativity just flows from inside me.–Mike, BTL Participant, Veterans Recovery Center

I want people to see and hopefully take in how veterans feel dealing with 'the good, the bad, the ugly'. Art gives others a glimpse into our minds. For me, I can find enjoyment in the process and permission to let go and not be judged. –Michael, BTL Participant, Veterans Recovery Center
