16 things you probably didn’t know about Facebook MAX HITCHINS

Are you using Facebook to market your hospitality business? If not why not? Here are some facts about Facebook that gives you some idea of how it has ‘taken over’ the lives of so many people. I’m not suggesting it is the panacea to solve all your marketing challenges. I am simply giving you information to show what a phenomenon Facebook is. Remember it only began thirteen years ago on the 4th of February 2004. • Every second of the day there are 20,000 people on Facebook. • The average user spends forty minutes minutes per day on Facebook. • Smartphone users check Facebook fourteen times a day. • Every minute 1.8 million new ‘likes’ are made on Facebook. • It has been suggested that any text you put in the status update is sent to Facebook’s servers, even if you don’t click the post button post. Big Brother is watching! • You can open up a conversation in Facebook Messenger and type @fbchessplay to start a game of chess with a friend. • 701,389 Facebook logins every minute of the day. • 600,000 hacking attempts are made to Facebook accounts every day. • Facebook is named as a factor in one of three divorces. • More than one billion people access Facebook on a mobile device on a monthly basis. That's about 1/7 of the people on planet Earth. • Adding /4 to the end of Facebook’s URL will automatically direct you to Mark Zuckerberg’s wall. In case you don’t know, Mark Zuckerberg is the founder of Facebook. • Wikipedia has a list of list sixty three mergers and acquisitions made by Facebook up until May 2017. Search Google for:

Wikipedia + Facebook mergers. If you have a good idea maybe Facebook will buy it from you. • The average adult Facebook user has 338 friends. • If random friends keep bugging you you can hide your online chat status. On desktop, open the chat window, click on the gear icon in the upper right, click Advanced Settings. Then, Turn off chat for all friends or Turn off chat for only some friends and add friend lists or names of people you'd like to ignore. • You can use Facebook's built-in read-it-later bookmark feature. There are millions of articles shared every day on Facebook. There isn’t enough time in the day to read all of them. Tap or click the Share button and then Save Link. All of your bookmarked articles will appear on in the Saved tap in the left column (desktop) or in the More tab > Saved (mobile app). • You can send money via Messenger in Facebook. There is a $ icon in Facebook Messenger chats. You can use it to pay Facebook friends up to $10,000 per month. The feature is similar to PayPal, Venmo, or Square Cash. You can only pay via debit card, which you can enter in Facebook settings > Payments.
