RSL DefenceCare is up and running in Western Australia. I appeal to Sub-Branch Presidents, Committees and those engaged in advocacy and welfare to familiarise yourselves with this major development in RSL core services. RSL DefenceCare is a charity and not-for- profit organisation which helps current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force and their families in times of injury, illness and crisis. It is dedicated to providing a safe place for members of the Defence family; to providing compassionate and understanding support as well as practical, holistic and immediate assistance. There are three main services: •assistance with DVA claims, •advocacy at Veterans’ Review board, and •community support including financial assistance and referral services. The WA team is available on 9287 3799. Please welcome them. They are at the moment based at ANZAC House – but will move to our temporary State headquarters at Level 3, 66 St Georges Terrace by mid-October. The team comprises two new staff and RSLWA’s former State Welfare Officer Rosalind Howat. Barry Chalk has been appointed State Manager. He comes from six years with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and previously served in the Royal Australian Navy for 28 years. Morgana Ramsey served in the Royal Australian Navy for more than 10 years and later completed a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in English and

Cultural Studies, as well as French language and culture studies. Barry and Morgana are passionate about helping those who are serving or have served. Rosalind Howat has worked at ANZAC House for the last seven years assisting veterans and their dependents to maintain their quality of life and dignity in her role as RSLWA State Welfare Officer. Although Rosalind doesn’t have an ex- service background, she does have over 25 years’ experience in the area of Community Services and has held positions in both Government and not- I can now confirm that ANZAC House, on the corner of St Georges Terrace and Irwin Street, will close this year. The first stage will be the relocation of all administration staff on the first floor to Level 3, 66 St Georges Terrace by mid- October. (The building is across the road from Allendale Square). The second stage will be the closure of the ANZAC Club on Wednesday December 21. Shifting to 66 St Georges Terrace will clear the way for the demolition of the sub-standard ANZAC House building and it’s replacement with new facilities for use by all ESOs. Level 3, 66 St Georges Terrace was previously occupied by ASIC so we are fortunate in having work stations and office furniture already in place. The building is close to public transport, has easy access and there is plenty of space for meetings and our expanding services. for-profit organisations. RSLWA Headquarters
