George Walker, Salem, Ore., has recently accepted the pastorate o f the Temple Bap tist Church o f Salem. Faith C. Isaac, ’28, Chicago, 111., has been working on publications there for four years. She is having great joy in her vol untary service in the Fourth Presbyterian Church. She is also vice-president o f a younger business girls’ club which has a Bible class and an interest in missions. Angela C. Reynolds, ’25, San Antonio, Tex., has retired from her public school teaching. Among many activities, she is teaching Bible classes in the Mission Home and Training School and in the Laurel Heights Methodist Church of San Antonio. Bom T o John W . ( ’25) and Mrs. Friesen (Anna Kliewer, ’20), a son, Leroy, June 7, Los Angeles, Calif. To George W . ( ’25) and Mrs. Jackson (Agnes Hosie, ’26), a daughter, Marjorie Janet, June 7, Pasadena, Calif. W ith the Lord The sympathy o f the Institute family goes out-to Harold ( ’29) and Mrs. Coen (Ella Penner, ’29) as this word comes -from them: “ Eleanore Mae was born to us on April 28, 1934 (Vom Hospital). On Sunday, April 29, she was taken unto_ the dear Father’s bosom—ever to be with Him.” Mr. and Mrs. Coen, who are serving the Lord under the Sudan Interior Mission, have recently been given charge of a new station far in the interior. Their address is Katanga, via Jos, Nigeria, West Africa.

W . A. and Mrs. Ogden (Frances Coff man, ’22) have recently entered upon their service in the pastorate of, the First Breth ren Church, Los Angeles, Calif. Godfrey ( ’24) and Mrs. Lindholm, Scan dinavian Alliance Mission, Kalgan, Cha- har, N. China, like many other members of the Biola family, have been called to sow the seed in hard places without being privi leged to see much fruit thus far. But they are able to bear testimony to the Lord’s faithfulness: “God has been near us and has blessed us in many different ways. Praise His name for His wonderful love and faith fulness that does not cease to be manifested. Although we cannot report any special manifestation of His power in pur work, we do know that He is faithful that has called us, and we are praying and waiting for an awakening among the Mongols among whom we are working. Our work here in Kalgan is to a large extent to seek to reach those who come here to trade or who come through this city on their jour neys to other places. W e have been en couraged by the increased willingness on the part o f the people to receive the Word in print. W e hope that it is a sign that they are beginning to seek something that will satisfy their hungry hearts. God has bless ed our children, Grace and Donald, as well as us, with good health, for which we wish to praise Him.” Jemima Thompson, ’28, expects to sail for India from San Pedro, Calif., July 16, on the N. Y. K. line, going to her field via the Orient. She will be serving under the Scandinavian Alliance Mission.

Norman (’30) and Mrs. Gundry (Lolita Hinshaw, ’31) are studying the Hausa lan guage at Minna, N. Nigeria, West Africa, where Joseph Beckett, ’32, is also studying the same language. They are affiliated with the Sudan Interior Mission. To Cutler B. Whitwell, ’25, Mr. and Mrs. Gundry write: “W e arrived at Lagos February 9 and were glad to really be in Africa. That same night, we took a train to start our journey to the interior. The train was very good, except that we had no drinking water for a night and a day. The words of Jesus, ‘Whosoever drinketh o f the water that I shall give him shall never thirst,’ mean more to us after that experience. Substi tutes did not satisfy.” The next day, as the train stopped at a station, Kathryn Dick, ’29, called to them. She was waiting for a train to return to her own station. Mrs. Earle L. Ferris (Kathryn Smith, ’30) is teaching in the Immanuel Baptist Church in Pasadena, Calif., and has charge o f the B. Y. P. U. there. Steer, T6, Kirby, Ore., is_being wondrously blessed in his home missionary work in neglected parts o f Oregon where God’s Word has not been heard for years. Closed churches are being opened, and thirsty souls are drinking o f the \yater of life freely and joyously. Ellen T. Radant, ’26, E. S., Los Angeles, Calif., has been working in the Peniel Chapel for the past year. The chapel is lo cated near the National Military Home, where Miss Radant and her associates have been able to bring the gospel to the soldiers. E. L. ( ’23) and Mrs. Reisem (Olga Hal verson, ’24), Rolette, N. Dak., have been engaged in the ministry of the Lutheran Brethren Church for ten years. They have two children, a girl nine years of age, and a boy o f four. They write: “ God has been good to us in giving us good health, and has supplied our need even in depression.” The Lord has blessed in the church, and the tent work last summer was used to the sal vation o f souls. Elizabeth Spooner, ’26, Portsmouth, Ky., has been a missionary in the mountains of Kentucky for six years. Affiliated with the Rehoboth Mountain Mission, she is carry ing the gospel farther and farther into the mountain regions. She writes: “ The Lord has provided a gracious reception o f our work and message among a people who are not apt to welcome strangers. They welcome the Bible work and love to have their chil dren memorize the verses. Young and old have been earning Bibles by reciting verses which we choose.” Hattie Jane Moore, T9, Vancouver, B.C., Can., has been engaged in Jewish mission ary work for the past five years, doing house to house visitation. There is no or ganized mission for Jews in Vancouver. Byron W . Travis, ’25, Portland, Ore., is pastor o f the Unity Presbyterian Church in Portland, which pastorate he has held for nine years.
