$20.00 to the Institute, and as I went to my room, a letter was handed me containing a gift o f $5.00 more. “ On the following Sunday, the superintendent o f the Sunday- school in which I teach, asked me to see him after class. “ ‘ Do you want a regular job ?’ he asked. “ ‘Certainly,’ I replied. “ He explained that a member o f the church was seeking a night watchman, to care for a store, and would pay $15.00 monthly and furnish two meals daily.” A t this point in the narrative, the young man paused. Then he continued quietly, “ You see, be cause the Lord enabled me to help my Russian friend, from three separate and totally unexpected sources He provided the money for my own needs.” The quiet voice o f the student ceased. In his eyes was that ex pression o f deep abiding calm that one notes in the faces o f those who are consecrated to God. The young man had been asked to give his testimony to the marvel o f di vine grace, and he had responded willingly. There was nothing I more to add. On the table lay the 1934 class

program. A t the top o f the page was the class m otto: “ The love o f Christ constraineth us.” “ Your Russian friend is to be graduated this year, is he not?” “ Yes,” the young man nodded. “ You took a serious chance, for his sake.” The student was silent for a moment. Then, pointing to the class motto, he replied with quiet earnestness. “ If you ask the reason— that’s it,” he said, “ that’s it!” “ The love of Christ constraineth us”— not only the members o f the 1934 graduating class, but the whole Bible Institute family. The Bible Institute o f Los Angeles exists solely to do the will o f God in training young men and women for Christian work. Only the beneficence o f a lov ing Father makes its work possible. As in the case o f the two young men, God’s favor is freely bestowed when there is willingness to sacrifice. In the spirit o f David who declared: “ Neither will I offer . . . unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing,” many students o f the Institute are foregoing the pleasure o f a summer spent in personal enjoyment, in order to give their time and'strength to the ministry o f wit nessing for Christ. W e covet your prayers for and interest in this work—- God’s work. Will you, “ constrained by the love o f the crucified Lord,” ,sacrifice time for the ministry o f interces sion on behalf o f Biola? W ill you remember the school daily, adding its needs— spiritual and financial— to the list o f objects for which you will beseech God to do “ exceeding abundantly”— through you?
LOVE o f CHRIST an amount that had accumulated during board and room the weeks o f adjustment. My first feeling was one o f panic. I rushed around to every one I knew, who could by any chance know of a job, and I literally begged for work. Yet nothing was offered. And then,” he added, “ it seemed I heard a Voice speaking in my heart: ‘Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord’ (Ex . 14:13). I stopped right where I was and gave myself to prayer, and oh, the bless- edness o f the assurance that swept over me that I was not deserted and forlorn, but that a wise and loving Father guided m e ! It was many days before anything happened. I had very little to eat. But really, that didn’t matter much, for during that whole period, I was enjoying the most won derful communion with God, receiving in prayer the re newed assurance that my decision was within His will. “ One morning, about a week after I had ceased trying to solve my own problems, I was coming from class, when Mr. Whitwell (the Institute’s Employment Manager) called me. “ ‘Didn’t you register at the.............. ........ hospital as one ready to be called on for a blood transfusion ?’ he asked. “ ‘Yes,’ I replied. “ ‘You are to report at the hospital at once.’ “ I went, and came back with $25.00 in cash. I paid
