THAT’S A LOT OF CHOCOLATE!
A $10,000 donation by seven local Giant Tiger stores enabled Theodore Philippe Koch, a young boy from Bourget who suffers from an extremely rare gene mutation named KCNH1, to obtain and train a young service dog. In late December 2018, Theodore’s family was approached by Rod Fleming, owner of Embrun’s Giant Tiger. The man had caught wind of the young boy’s plight and wanted to help with fundraising efforts for the latter’s service dog. Fleming then approached six other Giant Tiger stores, which all quickly accepted to help. The seven stores came together and started presenting donation boxes and round-up at the cash. The locations involved had posters of Theo as well as explanations of why the family was raising funds for a service dog. The owners that helped included Frederic Martin (Rockland), Sylvain St-Martin and Bob O’Reilly (Orleans), Nick Wilson, Patrick Lapensee and Kevin Adams (Ottawa) as well as Fleming (Embrun). Three local residents were quite surprised to recently welcome the Easter Rabbit. The latter was in town in order to hand out chocolate prizes following a draw held by Rockland Taxi. The lucky winners were Rita Saumure of Rockland, Lise Gauthier (pictured) of Wendover and Dawn Roy-Trick from Rockland. The random draw took place on April 18. —supplied photo
