his experience of the saving grace of the Lord, she acknowledged her- cold, backslidden state of heart and with tears on her cheek said she too would come back, and renew her vows to such a gracious, loving Saviour, whose love is as great as His power and knows neither measure or end. Thus we give God the glory as con tinually we prove the power of the Word to. regenerate the soul and transform the life as His voice still rings down through the ages, "said I not unto thee if thou wouldst believe thou shouldst see the glory of God?” I ti He NOTABLE BIBLE CONFERENCE IN CHICAGO Nationally known speakers ad dressed large congregations of deeply interested listeners from every denom ination at a Bible Conference held under the auspices of the Illinois Christian Fundamentals Association at the Englewood Presbyterian Church, Chicago, November 6-15 in clusive. Some of those who were heard were Dr. John Roach Straton, of Calvary Baptist Church, New York City; Clin ton N. Howard, of Rochester, N. Y.; Dr. H- W. Bieber of Cynwyd, Penna.; Dr. Robert Dick Wilson, of Princeton University; Dr. Robert A. Hadden, of Los Angeles; Dr. W. B. Riley; Presi dent C. F. Fields, of tba,Illinois Chris tian Fundamentals Association; Rev. Wm. McCarrell, President of the Chi cago Fundamental Ministers’ Union; and Rev. J. C. O’Hair of the North Shore Congregational Church, Chi cago. The pastor of Englewood Church, Rev. Albert C. Dudley, expressed his appreciation of the Conference as fol lows: "Much good and nothing harm ful was done. My people want more such spiritual feasts." dia? we were conscious there was no real taking hold of Ood in his behalf. Whether we put it in words or not there was the hope way down in our hearts that God would remove him to safeguard our boys from infection. He would creep into Biola Hall and sleep the hours away from sheer ex haustion and invariably awoke in time to eat when the eats were spread, for, thank the Lord, there was one "good Samaritan" who took hold of God in his behalf and kept at it when the rest of us gave up. This must have gone on for over a year, and day after day, patiently and prayerfully, he labored with the out cast. The first dawning signs of answered prayer were seen in his outward ap pearance. He actually began to -"wash up.” He was given clean clothes and at last he began to try to keep them looking clean and brushed, and pre sent an outward appearance of respect ability, and best of all, he took to reading his little Testament every day, and kept reading it on every occasion- Next thing we heard he was attending the evening classes at the Bible Insti tute, and finally, he secured a small job in a city bank. True the tasks were not heavy and the pay envelope was in proportion, but the “ slum cat” was making good and. the real secret was he was digging into that little New Testament at every chance. Wherever we would run across the boy he was always reading and never any thing else but "the Book.” The men in the bank noticed this, for during the noon hour while the other lads were "swapping stories” or talking over the night’s amusements, | our lad was deep in the searching of truth, and applying it to his own life. Of course the inevitable happened! - “ Tim” was promoted. They put him to handling money, and no one Was more surprised than he when bis next .month's pay envelope contained a check for three figures. The bank officials began to take a personal in terest, advising him regarding money matters. A savings account was started, and for all this material change, his love and devotion for “ the Book” was in no wise lessened. He carried it wherever he went, and let everyone know Just where he stood, still making “ Biola Hall” his head quarters, watching the students as they did personal work, and testifying for his Saviour. Not long ago he was seated next to a man in a car, as usual reading "the Book.” The man made some slurring remark. He simply passed the Book and asked him to read it. The man repulsed and roughly resented this but he quietly continued reading to him from "the Book,” till the bitterness and resentment began to melt away. Finally as the car reached the destina tion, the man begged forgiveness, con fessing his. heart hunger, and right there made his stand for the Lord Jesus Christ, as his own personal Sav iour. Thus encouraged, on the return trip a middle aged woman seated next to him gave the opening on sight of the "open Book,” and as he told her
