to extricate the mule from the bushes and free him from the saddle which was caught so firmly in the bushes. They led the mule up a narrow path coming out on the road a half mile beyond where they had. fallen. William again mounted and rode on. C When Rose made sure that William was safe, the relief was so great that she could not keep the tears back. She rode on with blinding tears and was thankful when the others made no comment. How thankful the little party were that their leader was unhurt, for to these Indians such an accident was not unusual and frequently with far more serious results. Mr. Foster took advantage of an early opportunity to tell William how much the accident had affected Rose so that when later she fell back with the others, William’s heart was full of pity, for her face still showed traces of the strain through which Bhe had passed. Without further serious difficulties the rest of the journey was accomplished, and the party reached the farm. Thank fully they prepared quarters in the old farmhouse, sure that God’s special protecting care was over them. William’s last thought before he went to sleep was of Rose. “ I wonder if she loves me in that way and if I ought not to make her happy even though I could never give her the whole love of my heart. I wonder if I should.” (To be continued) m m OUR BIBLE INSTITUTE IN CHINA (Continued from page 83) and worship” is being put into effect is evident from a recent letter received from Miss Jennie Hughes, who is associated with Dr. Mary Stone in her wonderful work at Shanghai., Miss Hughes says: "The missions are desperate! The schools are being emptied as they compromise! One school at Kiukiang has an advertisement in the Shanghai papers, calling for stu dents and advertising NO R E L I G I O U S TEACHING REQUIRED! It almost broke our hearts. In Foochow the students have idols in their rooms and are given permission and set times for worshipping them. I would not have believed this if Dr. Stone had not told me herself. I am telling you so that you can pray.” And, lastly, we are just in receipt of a letter from our own Dr. Frank Keller, Superintendent of our Bible Institute in Hunan Province, enclosing a full typewritten translation of the anti-Christian resolutions passed by the National Ohinese Student Union, referred to above. Dr. Keller’s let ter contains the following cheering statement: “ You will rejoice to know that although conditions are very bad in North China, Hunan Province is enjoying a time of peace and quiet and our work is going on prosperously in all departments. Stirring reports are coming in from the Biola Evangelistic Bands and our students seem to be work ing with real love and enthusiasm. I am sending you the document enclosed so that you may be able better to pray for the whole missionary body in China in this present crisis.” The plea for prayer by both Mrs. Taylor and Dr. Keller is most timely, and we are sure that our King’s Business Family will respond. Pray for the missionaries that the Lord may protect and use them as never before. Pray for the misguided Chinese people whose ignorance Of the truth is leading them to violence and hatred. .Pray for the heretics of the church whose failure to give the Gospel in its simplicity and power has not only abetted the .natives in their ungodly work but has misused sacred funds contributed by loyal Christian people. The call for prayer was never more definite than now. Let us pray!
