CULTS CRITIQUE by B etty Brueehert

I n His O livet discourse (Matthew 24-25), the Lord Jesus Christ de scribed signs which will characterize the last days. Among these He men tioned strange claims. “ And many false prophets shall rise, and deceive many. Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders: insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect Current rumors from cultists are many. For instance, a weird organi zation calling itself “ The Associa tion of Sananda Sanat Kumara” of Mt. Shasta, Calif, insists that Christ has returned and is in their midst in person. A recent folder from their headquarters in c lu d e s this state ment: “Now, as predicted, He is here, in flesh and bone, preparing to gather His elect from among them. And He states clearly that He is back to usher in the new dispensation.” A prophet from Beirut, Lebanon, using the name of Sheikh Butros Eid Dib, and appearing in top hat, carna tion and red nail polish, declares that he has received revelations from God on snakeskin. He has given a new set of Ten Commandments, claiming that the daily recital of these will cleanse his followers from sin, which is in consistent indeed since one of his teachings is that a man or woman may have as many mates as desired —one at a time! A publication entitled “ The Man of Sin, 666” by an E. R. Lindsey, un known to us, describes a man of mys tery, whom the author evidently be lieves to be the antichrist. Calling himself Prince Addis Abbaba Baha, this man is said to live in a magnifi cent, thousand-room palace in the desert, sixty miles from Bagdad, which he claims to be the location of the Garden of Eden. This Prince is alleged to have produced “ a living flame” from heaven which melted rocks. Says the writer: “ Here . . . in Iraq . . . the most diabolical mind of the ages is laying the foundation, and planning for the greatest event that Satan shall ever be privileged to play a part in, the ushering in of the great tribulation and the rule of anti christ.” Jesus also said on the Mt. of Olives: “ See that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet”.
