the apostle wrote, ‘I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.’ Thank You, Father. In Jesus’ name. Amen.” Write these words on a small card or paper: “ I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me” (Philippians 4 :13). Put it in the pocket where you used to carry the cigarettes. I f you are tempted to smoke, take the card from your pocket and read it aloud. Give thanks to God for His strength and you will find He is giving you the extra strength you need. He is your Master now. Do not allow failures in the past to discourage you as you take these positive steps to victory over cigarettes. Use every opportunity to tell your family and friends you have given up cigarettes. The Bible says “ . . . They overcame . . . by the word of their testi mony . . .” (Revelation 12:11). Some may taunt and try to get you to break down and smoke; but be prepared for this, and be ready to stand by your determina tion to be free from this habit which belongs to the old life. While there are many who will be able to break the cigarette habit by following the above-men tioned steps, one further step should be taken. Prayerfully ap proach your minister (or other dedicated Christian) and request that he covenant with you and pray (1) that you will be re leased from all desire for cigar ettes, and (2) that you will be healed of this physical infirmity. Totally surrender your body and mind to Jesus Christ and ask Him to take complete control of you. Then thank God in faith that He does answer. By this step alone I have seen numerous deliverances from the tobacco habit. There is more than psychology involved in this method of break ing the cigarette habit. There is the employment o f scriptural principles and the recognition of the binding tobacco habit as part of the “ old things” that pass away when we become new creatures in Christ. Not only the cigarette habit, but any other harmful practice as well, can be broken by applying these scriptural truths. JUNE, 1965
