Dear Forest Park Residents,
Can you believe fall is already here? Summer flew by, and what an incredible season it was! We were thrilled to see so many families enjoying our events, programs, parks, and facilities. Nearly 250 dedicated employees worked throughout the summer to ensure every patron had a safe, welcoming, and memorable experience. Our Aquatic Center staff once again demonstrated their commitment to excellence. Licensed through Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program, they underwent multiple unannounced safety audits throughout the summer and earned an “Exceeds Standards” rating each time, the highest level of achievement awarded by Ellis. Congratulations to our outstanding Aquatics team for their dedication to providing a safe environment for all. Our summer camps were once again filled with smiling faces and unforgettable memories. Campers enjoyed exciting field trips, cooling off at the pool on hot summer days, and building friendships that will last a lifetime. Like many communities, we faced some weather-related challenges this summer. Fortunately, thanks to the flexibility of our staff, volunteers, and community, we were able to successfully reschedule all our concerts and the Fourth of July fireworks celebration. We appreciate everyone’s patience and support. Now we’re excited to welcome another fantastic season of events! Fall kicks off with Fall Fest on Saturday, September 12, featuring live music, over 40 local vendors, delicious food, and family-friendly activities. We invite everyone to join us for an enjoyable evening on the front lawn with family, friends, and neighbors. Be sure not to miss our annual Family Campout later in September, where families can spend a memorable night under the stars at Camp PDoFP while enjoying the company of friends and neighbors.
This fall, the Board of Commissioners and Park District staff will continue working diligently on the preliminary phases of our latest OSLAD Grant project focusing on the renovation of our main park. Over the past several years, with the support of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant Program, we have transformed parks throughout our community without placing any additional tax burden on our residents. We are proud to announce that the Park District has secured a $600,000 OSLAD grant to help fund the exciting main park renovation project. This investment will revitalize one of our community’s most heavily used parks, including renovations of the playground and turf field. Current work includes finalizing designs, completing environmental and soil testing, and obtaining the necessary permits before construction begins. The renovated park will greatly expand recreation opportunities for residents of all ages with features including a new three-sport field, an inclusive playground with unique play amenities, an outdoor classroom, a putting green, game tables, and interactive pavement games. Thank you to all our residents for your continued support, feedback, and involvement. Your ideas help shape the future of our parks and programs, and we look forward to hearing from you as we continue to enhance our community. The Park District remains committed to providing opportunities that promote health, wellness, recreation, and community connection for residents of all ages.
