ARAB JUDGES COLLABORATE ON ENFORCEMENT

CLYDE & CO OPENS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Judges from 13 Arab countries attended an ICCA dialogue on the New York Convention in Manama from 3 to 5 May 2014. The event, organised by Marike Paulsson, member of the ICCA’s judiciary committee, and Nassib Ziadé, CEO of BCDR-AAA, focused on recommendations to improve the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards in Arab jurisdictions.

Clyde & Co is to open new offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg, to be led by Daniel Le Roux, together with partners departing from Webber Wentzel’s Insurance and Legal Liability Practice Group. The offices will initially cover dispute resolution and all classes of insurance business.

PCA SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH THE CAC-CCB

FIRST HEARING IN MAURITIUS FOR PCA

The PCA has signed a cooperation agreement with the Centre for Arbitration and Conciliation of the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá (CAC-CCB). This agreement will strengthen ties between the CAC-CCB and the PCA – each institution will be able to hold hearings and meetings at the other’s premises.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) held its first hearing in Mauritius in May 2014. The hearing between an African company and an African state lasted two days and marks the first occasion on which the PCA has held hearings in Mauritius under the 2009 PCA-Mauritius Host Country Agreement.

CLYDE & CO SHORTLISTED FOR ‘LAW FIRM OF THE YEAR’ AWARD

ITA LAUNCHES LATIN AMERICAN ARBITRATION FORUM

Clyde & Co has been shortlisted for the ‘Law Firm of the Year’ award in The Lawyer Awards 2014, recognising the significant transformation the firm has undergone in the last few years. The winner will be revealed at a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 25 June.

The Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA) has launched an online forum for Latin American arbitration. Known as ITAFOR, contributions will be predominantly in Spanish and Portuguese. The forum is backed by the Latin American Arbitration Association and the Brazilian Arbitration Committee.

NEW LCIA RULES SOON TO BE DISSEMINATED

CLYDE & CO OPENS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

The new LCIA Rules are expected to be disseminated later this year, following a discussion of the Rules by the Court at its meeting at Tylney Hall on Friday 9 May.

Clyde & Co is to open an office in Newport Beach, Orange County. Joe Walsh, formerly a partner at Keesal, Young & Logan, and team will provide legal services focussed on the marine and energy markets.
