Waste disposal is a necessary part of a civilized society. However, it’s also a function that rarely receives enough credit for its important role. While the average person may not know what happens to trash once it leaves the curb, municipalities are tasked with finding the best solutions for their cities, and more and more, cities are realizing the importance of sustainable solutions.

“Synagro is the leading provider of biosolids and residuals management solutions, partnering with municipalities and industries across the United States for over 30 years and transforming organic waste challenges into sustainable solutions,” explained Andy Livingston, Synagro marketing coordinator. “Our design, build and operation solutions have helped cities like Philadelphia and Honolulu turn what was once waste into a sustainable resource, helping us with our mission to be their partner for a cleaner, greener world.” In the case of Honolulu, Synagro worked to keep the island beautiful with a bioconver- sion facility, which provides anaerobic digestion, centrifuge dewatering and heat drying and pelletization. These efforts helped the city to reduce a need for landfill expansion and provided high-quality fertilizer to be used for both agricultural and commercial use from its own biosolids. An ambitious company like Synagro was in need of a facility that could meet its needs. “In 2011, we needed an updated location

with more room for our ever-growing team,” Livingston stated. “St. John [Properties] stepped in and provided the space we needed with excellent customer service, which they have continued to provide to us!” With the space to expand and the crew to accomplish its goals, Synagro will continue to innovate in the future. “We’ve been expanding our workforce and areas of operation significantly over the past four years and will continue to do so,” Livingston

said. “As the population increases, so does the generation of biosolids and residuals, and we plan to be at the front of turning it all into sustainable solutions.”
