10. What is the purpose of the judg ment seat of Christ? 11. What is meant by “suffering loss” at the judgment seat? (1 Cor. 3:15; 2 Cor. 5:10.) Does this doctrine not mean that every believer must be sure that he spends his life for Christ in order that he might avoid suffering “loss” in heaven? Ja n . 15, 1956 Is "Getting Even" Christian? Many believers carry a grudge around with them— some throughout life. Such actions displease God, grieve the Holy Spirit and withhold blessing from all concerned. S T U D Y QU ESTION S 1. The Book of Leviticus is a most won derful and practical book. In this book, among other things, God sets forth the relationship of people with their brethren; God is concerned about the harmony and unity of those who belong to Him. Why do you think this is so? (John 17:21.) 2. Read the first 18 verses of Lev. 19. What do you think is the theme of this section? 3. What is the command of v. 15, of v. 16, of v. 17? 4. What attitude is each believer to have toward every other believer? (v. 18.). 5. Why is this command to be heeded? (v. 18.) 6. What is the child of God to do when he has been offended by someone? (Prov. 20 : 22 .) 7. Why is the believer to heed the in junction of Prov, 24:29? See Rom. 12:17- 21 for your answer. 8. Do you think the principle set forth in Matt. 5:39 is applicable today? What is the basic attitude expected according to this verse? 1 Thes. 5 :1 4 -1 8 1 Pet. 2 :2 1 -2 5 A cts 7 :5 6 -6 0 A cts 1 8 :5 , 6 Gen. 4 5 :1 -8 Rom. 12:17-21

The text in Matthew should really begin with v. 21. Notice that the Saviour in this passage is pointing out the quali fications for discipleship. There is nothing easy about following Jesus. It is true that the most simple thing in the world is to becom e a Christian (John 1:12), but there is a price to pay for living as a Christian. What did our Lord tell the disciples in Matt. 16:21? 2. How did Peter respond to this an nouncement? (v. 22.) Why did Peter so respond? (v. 23.) What does our Lord mean by indicating that Satan and Peter were the same? Does not Satan always try to detour the cross? 3. List the three requirements set forth by the Lord in v. 24. Discuss each of these things: what is meant by denying self, taking up the cross, following Christ? 4. How is it possible for a man to “save” his life and yet “lose” it? (v. 25.) 5. How can a man “lose” his life and yet at the same time “find” it? (v. 25.) 6. In the sight of God how much is one solitary life worth? (v. 26.) 7. What is the great incentive to spend our lives for Christ? (v. 27.) 8. Some people, according to 1 Cor. 3:12, build their lives of “wood, hay, stubble.” What does this mean? What does it mean to build with “ gold, silver, pre cious stones” ? 9. How many believers will stand be fore the judgment seat of Christ? (1 Cor. 3:13; 2 Cor. 5:10; Rom. 14:12.)

H E A R T O F T H E LESSON This lesson and the one to follow next week are designed to challenge young people to face life thoughtfully and with an attitude of complete surrender to the will of God. S T U D Y Q U ESTION S 1. To Whom does the life of the believ er really belong? (cf. 1 Cor. 6:19, 20; 1 Pet. 1:18, 19; Gal. 2:20.) 2. In the light of this truth how is the believer to live? Make a list of the vari ous areas of life and ask if these belong to the Lord Jesus Christ — areas like talents, time, treasure, etc. 3. Since your life belongs to God through faith in Christ, are you to be worried about things? (Matt. 6:25.) Does this mean that God expects the believer to be unconcerned? 4. What part of the' individual is of greatest importance according to Matt. 6:25? How is this truth to be applied? (cf. 2 Pet. 3:18; Col. 3:1-4.) 5. What is the argument of Matt. 6:26- 31? 6. What is to he the Christian’s first interest in life? (Matt. 6:33.) What does it mean to seek the “kingdom of God, and his righteousness” ? Study Rom. 14:17. Note that Matt. 6:33 does not refer to the coming kingdom of Christ, although we do “ seek” this kingdom in the sense that we wait patiently for the Saviour’s appearing (2 Tim. 4:1) . 7. What is God’s promise if we put first things first? (Matt. 6:33.) 8. How do we know that God is con cerned vitally with every detail of the believer’s life? (Matt. 10:29-31.) Study Ps. 31:15 and Phil. 4:6, 7 in this same, connection.
