/.. As the years passed, it became evident that this human dynamo had its limitations. Recognizing this as early as 1947, Dr. Talbot shared with the Board his desire to be relieved of .the responsibilities of the presidency. Feeling that there should be someone in the position who could do a better job than he had done representing Biola, he suggested Dr. Torrey Johnson as his possible successor. Actually, nothing materialized fron the arrange- ments made to discuss the matter with Dr. Johnson, and Dr. Talbot continued as President. Dr. Talbot eventually had to decide whether to relinquish his pastorate of the Church or his presidency of Biola. This difficult decision finally resulted in. his reisgnation from the Church, to become effective at the end of December, 1948. At the same time he agreed to continue as President of Biola. The Church tried desperately to keep him, offering him the posi- · tion of interim pastor, and agreeing to lighten his work load to meet his physical needs. He remained firm in his decision, however; and the Church finally accepted his resignation ending the successful seventeen-year car- eer of Louis Talbot as pastor of the Church of the Open Door, and an overall period of thirty-five years as a pastor. rt was a new and different life for Louis Talbot. No longer having the responsibility for the administration and pulpit duties of a church, He now could devote his entire time to the duties relating to Biola. Another first for him was the salary he now received from the School. During all his years of service to Biola, he had consistently refused to accept a salary or honoraril:nn for his work. His entire uspport had come from the Church of the open Door. The remaining years of Dr. Talbot's service as President of Biola, 1948 to 1952, were spent in the general area of public relations and extensive worldwide travel, visiting various missionaries on the field, many of whom . were Biola graduates. These ·travels were beneficial to the School, helping
