I clyde to look for a summer job to earn money for tuition, he looked forward to a relaxing summer of surfing on the beach, which he thoroughly enjoyed, before beginning his studies at the University. rt was at this juncture in Clyde Cook's life that God began to work in a remarkable and mysterious way. His mother, while listening to the Biola Hour Radio Program, learned that a Summer Bible Conference, geared to the interest of young people, was to be held at Lake Hume. Being concerned for the spiritual welfare of her children, she prevailed upon Clyde to accompany his younger sister to the Conference. Upon arrival at the Camp he was greetec by two Biola student Conference Counselors, Philip Sutherland, the son of Biola's President, Dr. Samuel H. Sutherlnad, and Jim Slevcove. The influence of the Conference and these two counselors caused Clyde Cook to change his plans to spend the summer surfing at the beach. Instead, when the Confer- ence ended, he became a counselor at the Green Oak Ranch in Vista, California During the summer, God began to impress young Cook with the need to invest his life in something that would last for eternity. He was particularly impressed with those counselors from Biola because they had a knowledge of the Bible which he really wanted. The Holy Spirit so moved in his life that just two weeks before he was to enroll at USC, he decided to decline the scholarship and to enroll at Biola. As a student at Biola, in 1956, Clyde Cook was selected to play on the Venture for Victory basketball team, an athletic evangelistic outreach spon- sored by Overseas Crusade. The team traveled extensively in Central and South America. During the half time of their games the team members pre- sented the Gospel to the spectators. After graduation from Biola, in 1957, Cook traveled with the team again, this time to the orient. Clyde met his wife, Anna Belle Lund, when they were students at Biola, and they were married in 1957. He enrolled in Talbot Seminary and was grad- uated in 1960, with a Master of Divinity degree; and again, in 1962, with
