For some time Biola had considered improving the Collegiate Program, developed in the late 1930's, which offered the bachelor degree in Theology; Christian Education, and Music. In 1944 the name was changed to The Bible Theological Seminary of Los Angeles, differentiating between it and the three-year General Course. The program was later strengthened with the ad- dition of a fifth year as a requirement for the bachelor degree. The final step in improving the program was the adoption of a three-year graduate course, with graduation from a four-year college as a prerequisite for ad- mission. These plans were approved in 1951, and the first students were admitted to the new program in the fall semester of 1952.
