141 mission project. There he met the future Mrs . Anne Feinberg, who was at- tending Moody Bible Institute and working in the Penial Mission. Once the romance begart-~.:LtmO-;ed rapidly. They were engaged within fifteen days, but were not married for three years, until Charles finished Seminary. Their wedding had all the air of an accademic occasion. They were married the night of his graduation, in the home of Dr. Lewis Sperry Chafer who per- formed the ceremony. Among those present were Dr. Ironside, Pastor of Moody Church; Dr. Stone, professor of wheaton College; and Dr . Everett Harrison, later a member of the faculty of Fuller Seminary. For Anne Feinberg, this must have been an excitiing occasion, in view of her tragic background. She was born in a small town in Russia, and raised in an Orthodox Jewish home. When she was quite young her father came to America intending to bring the £amily from Russia as soon as arrange- ments could be made. Unfortunately, World War I postponed the plans for seven years. During those years the family had no communication from him, and they underwent untold hardships of war, famine, and vicious persecution by the Russian Government. Jews were forced to bow their knees, tip their hat, or kiss the Christian cross or banners in the parades which were nu.~er ous in those days. Refusal to do so resulted in being spit upon, beaten, or driven from the town. After the Communist Bolsheviks took over in 1917, many of the Jews were driven from their homes. Anne's family was forced to live in a tent for some time . In 1921, when the father was finally able to make contact with the family, they were able to come to America, settling in Chicago, where they operated a small grocery store . While working in the grocery store, Mrs. Feinberg came into contact with a Christian lady who invited her to visit Penial Mission . As a result, she came to know Christ as her Messiah and Saviour . She has played the role of the typical Jewish wife and mother, dedicating herself to her husband and children.
