, .. ' was present. In a casual conversation, Dr. Sutherland, who learned of Glenn O'Neal's academic work enquired about the possibility of his teaching at Biola and Talbot Seminary. As a result, Dr. O'Neal began teaching part . time at Biola in the Speech Department, as well as some courses at Talbot Seminary, from 1952 to 1961, when he resigned his church to accept a full- time position in the Seminary in the Department of Practical Theology. During the years Dr. O'Neal has been associated with Biola and Talbot Seminary he has remained active in the Brethren Church, both at the local and national level. He has served on their Foreign Missions Board for severa : years. In 1967, he was elected Moderator of the Brethren Fellowship of Churches. Also, he has served as Interim Pastor in several churches, some of which have been other than Brethren churches. He has been guest speaker all over the Southern California area. Because of his desire to be free of the heavy administrative responsi- bilities incumbent upon the Dean, Dr. O'Neal resigned from this position in 1983, to devote full time to teaching in the Seminary and to serving as Chairman of the Practical Theology Department. Dr. Wendel Johnston, the third Dean of Tablot Seminary, was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1929. The family moved frequently as his father was a Presbyterian Minister in Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, Indiana, Wisc- onsin, and Illinois. When the family moved to Culver City, California, for one year, Wendel had opportunity on several occasions to attend the Church of the Open Door and to hear the Pastor, Dr. Louis T. Talbot, whom he greatly admired and respected for his preaching and exposition of the Scriptures. He never imagined that forty-six years later he would become Dean of the Semi.nary named after this spiritual giant. When Dr. Johnston, having the influence of his parents and his Christian DR.
