161 Christian Evidences, and Church Music. These courses indicate the demands that were being made upon the graduates. By 1916, the curriculum had been expanded sufficiently to offer .- the students different majors. The General Course was designed for those in pas- toral or general ministries; and another course was for Missions and Christ- ian Education. . These options enabled students to prepare . for a variety of ministries. Also, the first entrance requirements were established for pro- students: a minimum of twenty-one years of age required for men, and twenty for women. Exceptions to the rule could be made by a vote of the faculty. Students were classified as regular students, those attending classes full time in any of the majors; and part-time, those who could take a minimum of four Bible classes per week, plus the practical work require- ments. In 1916, a Correspondence Course was added to the curriculum, lead- ing to a certificate. Credit could be transferred from other schools such as Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. By 1924, Biola also offered a certifi- cate for work done in the Evening School, and credit was transferable to the regular program. Through the Correspondence and Evening Schools Biola open- ed the door for many laymen to obtain special training, the purpose for which the School had been established. In 1920, Biola again improved the quality of the curriculum to meet the needs both at home and abroad. Some f orrner courses were retained and several new ones added: Doctrine, Bible Synthesis, Chapter Summary, Biblical Analy- sis, Biblical Introduction, Biblical Criticism, Christian Evidences, Per- sonal Work, Homiletics, Pastoral Theology, Evangelism, Teacher Training, Church History, Public Speaking, Bible Geography and Customs, Music, and Practical Christian Work. A comparison of the new and . the old reveals that the new combined both theoretical Biblical training and the application of such in a more practical sense.
