168 Bible Institutes and Bible Colleges, which had established certain spiritual and academic criteria for Bible Institutes and Bible Colleges. Dr. Sutherlanc who had heei(T~-St--;.;~;~-tal in establishing this organization, was elected as its first President at the historic meeting in Ninona Lake, Indiana. Another significant milestone in the academic history and development ' of Biola was the acquisition in 1977 of the Rosemead Graduate School of Psy- chology which was begun by Dr. Clyde Narramore, a nationally prominent psy- chologist, to help meet the need for well trained Christian psychologists after World War II. In spite of the immediate success and rapid increase in enrollment, the financial indebtedness became too heavy for the Narramore organization, which asked Biola to consider assuming the program. Biola was· interested in the possibility, but felt that it must make certain conditions: no indebtedness would be assumed except for the Library, which Biola was to receive; the program would begin September 1, 1977; the Rosemead faculty salaries, which were considerablly higher than Biola's, would be reduced and integrated into the Biola salary scale; and the entire arrangement would need to be acceptable both to the Biola Academic Coffil!\ittee and to the l\.c- crediting Association. These conditions were approved, and the Rosemead School of Psychology was officially integrated into Biola. The School o~ Intercultural Studies and World Missions, the fourth and • the newest of the four schools that constitute Biola University, was estab- lished in 1983; however, its roots go back to the peginning of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles in 1908. Mr. Lyman Stewart and Rev. T. C. Horton, along with others, were strongly committed to evangelism and missions, a com- mitment which has continued to the present. One writer expressed this moti- vation well when he said, "Biola, as an institution, has a heart for Christ- ian missions." In fact, the missions courses not only have increased in number, but ·also have been upgraded periodically. In the first decade of· its history,
