/. lot. Somehow the news was learned that the Superior Oil Company planned to erect a multi-story building somewhere in downtown Los Angeles. Later, - ---- it was learned that this Company had purchased the - prop-erty on Sixth street between Flower and Hope Streets, all the way to the alley, giving them one- half of a city block, minus the "postage stamp" lot Biola owned, which was desperately needed by the Oil Company . When the Oil Company offered Biola $200,000.00, for the lot, Dr. Myers and others on the Board who were knowledg - able about real estate thought this was too low and countered with an offer of $350,000.00. The Oil Company thought this was preposterously high and rejected the offer, however, they continued to negotiate with Biola. After some time, Dr. Myers called the agent of Coldwell, Banker Company, which had been given exclusive rights as Biola's representative, and instructed him to tell the Superior Oil Company that Biola would withdraw its offer if it was not accepted by 2:00 P.M. the next day and sell to another inter- ested company who wanted it on which to erect a multi-level "pigeon-hole" parking lot. The next day, while Dr. Sutherland and a few others waited in Dr. Myers office, time ticked away with no response . At 2:00, Dr. Myers was reaching for the phone to call Mr. Detoy, the Coldwell, Banker agent, to tell him the deal was off when the phone rang and Mr. Detoy, a personal friend of Dr. Myers, said, "Ray, you must be on good terms with the Lord, for just now the Superior Oil Company representative called and said that his Company will purchase the lot for $350,000.00." This was a miracle. Biola had received $12,500 . 00 more for the lot than they had paid for the seventy- five acres in La Mirada. There was great rejoicing and praising God among the Biola community and friends. Selling the lot at a great profit was only the beginning of the miracles from the Lord. At the close of escrow, the Superior Oil Company stated they would pay the entire purchase price in cash if the Board so desired, :;,,.- :-- ..::: - ...
