; !1r. Stewart learned that Rev. Horton was definitely interested in the possibilities presented to him. Mr. Stewart made arrangements for him and Mrs. Horton to come to Los Angeles ยทยท-1n - th~ - summer of 1905. They spent approx- imately a month in the area during which time they met with the Elders of the Church several times and discussed the nature of the position and what was expected of him. He also spent considerable time with Mr. Stewart, during which time they became well acquainted on a personal basis. This was the beginning of a relationship which would last throughout the remainder of their lives. The Church extended an official call to Rev. Horton to be- come Assistant Pastor. He accepted the call, returned to Dallas, resigned from his position with the YMCA, and moved his family to Los Angeles, in January, 1906. Thus, in this manner, God brought Lyman Stewart and T.C . Horton together to form the team to perform the numerous tasks He set before them, one of which was the establishment of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, now Biola University. For seventeen years these two men walked arm-in-arm in dedicated servic to which God had called them with Mr. Horton working energetically with the Fisherman Club which he had organized, doing the work of an evangelist, teaching Bible Classes, establishing the Bible Institute, and so on. Mr. Stewart moved quietly in the background, praying and providing the funds for the numerous activities which enabled Mr. Horton to carry on his work effectively. Together, they recognized the need for Bible training, greatly lacking in that day; together, they laid the foundation for the Bible In- stitute of Los Angeles; and, together, they bore its burdens and shared its blessings until death removed them from the scene. The Judgement Seat of Christ alone will accurately evaluate the service of these great men of God rendered to Him and His Church in the founding of this great institution, Biola University.
