/. Torrey did consent to do the evangelistic work, suggested by Mr. Stewart, provided Biola would make the arrangements for all the engagements. He did not want it to appear that he was soliciting such meetings on his own behalf. ~ Finally, after many frustrating delays, an official Ground Breaking Ceremony was held June 22, 1912, at the Hope Street site with members of the Board, faculty, staff members, students, and friends on hand. Mr. Hor- ton, in his brief address, called attention to the great Christian work pro- videntially assigned to Biola and to the purpose of the management to make the proposed buildings a rallying center for magnifying the Word of God. Mr. Lyman Stewart, President of the Board, turned a shovelfull of dirt after which he said, "In the name of the Bible Institute I now take possession of this ground for the Lord's use by the act of turning this spadeful of earth. May our united prayers be that every detail of the construction of these buildings be accomplished in the fear of the Lord and for His glory. Let it be our hope and prayer that from this place shall radiate streams of in- fluence which will be a great blessing, not only to the multitudes around us but also to the darkest places of the earth.'' The dedicatory prayer was of- fered by Dr. R. A. Torrey, the new Dean. The Service was ended with the singing of the old hymn, "My hope is built on nothing less." When the delayed construction finally was underway, excavation for the foundation went down to the solid granite on which the foundation was to rest, in keeping with the chorus of the dedicatory hymn, "On Christ the solid rock I stand." When the foundation finally reached ground level, the Corner Stone Ceremony was held on Saturday afternoon, May 31, 1913. Inside the Corner Stone was placed a copper box containing the following items: copies of the City Newspapers of that day, a copy of the King's Business, a state.'Tlent of Doctrine, a Biol a Catalogue showing the School's curriculum, a list of . the names of the Board members, the faculty, the employes of the School, a list of students, and the name of the Architect and of the Superin-
