84 Among these were Dr. G. Campbell Morgan, Rev. Alva McClain, and Dr. William E. Balckstone. Morgan, who had written the Forward for the book, said of it, __ nFrom'-the--standpoint of intellectual interests, the book is a real de- light, but its greatest value is it will help many who are bewildered by conflict and controversy to clear their thinking upon the really fundamental things of our faith and life." It is interesting that a prominent Bible scholar such as Morgan could commend the book, while others of equal great- ness condemned it. Dr. Morgan became so concerned over the attacks and the damage they were doing to Macinnis' career and the welfare of Biola that he wrote the Chairman of the Board, "I have no desire to interfere in any improper way, but feel that it is due the Board to know that the moment Dr. Macinnis ceases to be Dean of the Institute, my association with it automatically ends. If the unwarranted interference of self-appointed judges outside the Institute should bring about his resignation, under no condition could I remain with the School." Dr Alva McClain, another faculty member, wrote a review of the book in which he defended the author. However, he did this half-heartedly and with ''tongue in Cheek." Like so many others, he found fualt with the language and placed some blame upon Macinnis for his failure to ennunciate certain passages in a manner understandable to all groups. He expressed his fear to Macinnis that there would be many who would not be able to comprehend exactly what the author had in mind. He predicted that criticisms would arise and that there was a possibility Macinnis would become the target of some heated debate. McClain was more perceptive in evaluating the book than most of its reviewers. Little did he know how prophetic his predictions were . Another staunch defender of Macinnis was Dr. w. E. Blackstone, author of Jesus is Coming. By profession, he was a lawyer, and no doubt it was this . that prompted him to accuse Dr. w. B. Riley of having taken the role of
