Child Haven fundraiser Child Haven International is holding its annual fundraising event at the Ramada Inn, Cornwall on March 30. Festivities begin at 6 p.m, entertain- ment by local musician and singer Gra- ham Greer. A bazaar of exotic Eastern goods and a silent auction complement the gourmet vegetarian dinner by Chef Joginder Khalsa. Tickets are $50. Tables of eight are available. For reservations, please con- tact Elaine MacDonald at 613-938-7763 or Sandy Cameron at 613-930-23012. Canada’s Atlantis The Saturday cultural talk at the St. Lawrence Visitor Centre will be “Sunken Villages: Canada's Atlantis”. Lois Helbig, photographer, author, and pilot will speak about and show his fascinating aerial photography of the sites of the Lost Villages in the St. Lawrence River. Participants will be encouraged to share reminiscences about life in the Lost Villages. The talk will start at 2 p.m. at the visi- tor centre at 2500B Second Street West. Charity tournament When the South Stormont Selects Atom B minor hockey team received some disheartening news — that one of the mothers in their close-knit ‘hockey family’ had been diagnosed with Plasma Cell Leukemia—the team was galvanized into action. Organizers planned a charity tourna- ment at the Long Sault Arena on Sun- day. The tournament kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with tickets for the Ottawa Sena- tors prize package available for sale throughout the day until the time of the draw. The bidding for items on the silent auction table begins at 10:30 a.m. and continues throughout the day. New portal for parents Parents of students at North Dundas District High School have a new web link to access information to help deal with everything from children’s mental health issues to underage alcohol use. NDDHS grades 7-8 Principal Debbie Banks said the new Parent Resources Portal will provide information to help parents deal with the challenges of rais- ing today’s youth. The portal can be found on the North Dundas District High School web site by clicking on news and events, and then clicking on the parent resources panel. Visitor guide available Did you know that Cornwall is home to Ontario's only hot air balloon festi- val? Or that the Glengarry Highland Games are the largest Scottish games outside of Scotland? These are just two of the many inter- esting tidbits of information to be found in the 2012 Visitor Guide for Cornwall and the Counties, which is now available at information stands throughout the area - and beyond. More than 40,000 copies of the guide have been printed - and a few hundred have already been handed out at trade shows this spring. TO THE POINT News in brief from Cornwall and the surrounding area
