Todd Lucas

Todd Lucas is General Manager of Bulk Power Operations (BPO) at Southern Company. In this role, Todd ensures reliable operations across Southern’s Bulk Electric System (BES) territory which encompasses the following entities: Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi Power companies, Georgia System Operations Company, Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia, Southeastern Power Administration, and Power South Energy Cooperative. Todd’s responsibilities include oversight of real-time system operations and operations support. Several NERC Reliability Functions are under his purview and perform numerous coordinated activities in support of a reliable Bulk Electric System. In addition to these core functions, Todd’s scope extends to operator training, compliance assurance, operations planning and data integrity. Prior to his current role, Todd progressed through supervisory and management positions including transmission system operations, transmission planning, transmission maintenance, and project management. Todd is an industry leader with continuous engagement on key focus areas. He served as the IOU sector representative on NERC’s Operating Committee (2015-2016). When NERC’s initiative on Integration of Variable Generation concluded, Todd joined the Essential Reliability Services Working Group as Vice Chair. His contributions to this effort positively influenced the eventual NERC report
