a home-care PT routine, Luke made the decision to join our Riverhead Professional Care PT family in January of this year. Luke and Dr. Powell have been working closely together several days a week over the course of six months and we are happy to announce that Luke has made tremendous strides in his recovery. He has developed significant muscle mass in his leg, can bend his knee and activate his foot motions with more control and can walk freely without assistance. Luke’s goal several months ago of living a more active and independent lifestyle with his friends and family has now become a reality, and everyone at Professional Care Physical Therapy feels blessed to be part of his recovery process. Luke recently shared that he has hopes one day to inspire those that are battling cancer and that are on a similar journey as his. Little does he realize that he inspires everyone at Professional Care PT each and every day, just by being the strong, determined and courageous young man that he is!

Not only has Luke been working hard towards his recovery, but next month he will also be celebrating his one-year anniversary CANCER FREE! In February of 2018 after feeling a small painful lump on his knee, 20-year old Luke underwent surgery to remove what was then discovered to be a cancerous mass, known as Osteosarcoma. Upon his diagnosis, Luke’s surgeon Dr. Fazel Khan of Stony Brook Orthopedics wasted no time and scheduled Luke’s procedure for a full knee replacement and skin graft which was performed by Stony Brook Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Dr. Duc T. Bui. Luke is grateful for his team of caring physicians for acting so quickly and ultimately saving his leg from amputation and his life.
