While both independent and integrated plants have installed TBS machines to increase productivity, many plants also enjoy the added benefit of expanding the size range of a 50-inch or 37-inch flexo to gain mini-sized box capability. The Italian manufacturer PARA supplied prefeeders, palletizers and some conveyors, as did Innoveyance. The software system that integrates plant and machine opera- tions is by Advantzware, now Advantive companies. Benningfield says Premier Packaging is now “well- equipped and in pretty good shape” for the future but is considering Twin Box Slitters at other locations as busi- ness continues to grow. “We’re really looking to stabilize and improve our pro- cesses and internal gains to keep up with the last three years of what has been exponential growth both internally and externally,” he says. “Having the Twin Box Slitters has given us the ability to run different sizes and thus, puts us in a better position to be more price competitive. We’ve been able to offer our customers opportunities to go to market in different ways than we could before.” Premier Packaging employs just under 1,000 in its six U.S. manufacturing locations, which includes 350 in its corporate headquarters and largest manufacturing facility in Louisville, where it runs three shifts, five days a week. The company’s sales staff include representatives who serve Mexico and Canada, as well. Premier boasts both a design department and a full testing lab in Louisville, with New EAM-Mosca SQ-4 strappers are at the end of Premier’s converting lines.
