Start your trip at Quesería Montesdeoca, 9.3km east of e Ritz-Carlton, Abama on the TF-82. A frequent winner at the World Cheese Awards, it offers guided tours – watch its herd of goats being fed, then sample champion cheeses rolled in paprika or macerated in figs to create a fabulous fuchsia-coloured rind. ere’s an array of farm-fresh fruit and vegetables at the Agromercado farmers’ market in Adeje, 6.5km south on the TF-82, so stock up before heading north on the TF-1 to begin your ascent towards Teide National Park. e TF-38 will take you up through arid volcanic landscapes to the scenic Chío picnic area (33.7km), 1,600 metres above sea level. After enjoying your market finds or stretching your legs on local footpaths, head south on the TF-38, then take the TF-21 and TF-24 along the island’s spine, passing from desert into lush forests as you descend into San Cristbal de la Laguna (78.3km). Try a jam-filled lagunero pastry at Dulcería Catedral, a long-established bakery opposite
the cathedral, and pick up jars of locally made mojo sauce at the Mercado Municipal. From here, the TF-5 will take you to Tenerife’s north coast and the Casa de la Miel (14.4km), where you can find out why the island’s honey enjoys the same protected status as Parmesan cheese and champagne. At the Casa del Vino, next door, you can taste honey made with exotic flowers from the slopes of Mount Teide, as well as superb local wines and cheeses. e TF-5 offers Atlantic views as you head west to the beautiful Baroque town of La Orotava (15.9km), where Depatanegra Ibéricos sells meltingly tender pata negra jamón and gift hampers. Keep going west to Icod de los Vinos (24.6km) for a tour of the Casa del Plátano, a banana plantation with a store selling gourmet Canarian produce. en return to e Ritz-Carlton, Abama (39.9km) for a meal at one of the hotel’s renowned restaurants.
