FMB South West members get ready for a round of golf at the Charity Golf Day in Gloucestershire
Meet Regional Director Nicola de Sousa I am thrilled to introduce myself as Director of FMB Central. As a former owner of a small construction business and an active member of the FMB, I understand the challenges faced by small construction companies and I’m excited about contributing to the development of our region. My journey in construction has been guided in recent years by a 'fabric first' approach, focusing on the building envelope to achieve comfortable homes and energy efficiency. This principle was central when I educated clients on the importance of retrofit and when I designed and project-managed the construction of my own home using structural insulated panels (SIPs). The experience showed me the potential of sustainable construction methods to address industry challenges such as the skills shortage. Go far, go together As Regional Director, establishing strong relationships with external stakeholders is a key priority. Engaging with industry experts, academic institutions, and other organisations will be vital in bringing you fresh insights and benefits. The old adage says: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Communication with you, the members, is the cornerstone for creating an informed and cohesive community. Your experiences, insights, and suggestions are invaluable. I am keen to hear from you, as our collective input will shape our region. An initial focus for me will be meeting with Board members individually to discuss their aspirations for the Central Region prior to our next Board meeting in September. I want to ensure my decisions and initiatives are reflective of the diversity within our membership. I’m excited about

FMB South West Golf Day
The FMB South West Area Board recently hosted a Charity Golf day at Thornbury Golf Centre in Gloucestershire. The event brought together the South West building community, providing members with an opportunity to network with each other and with local suppliers and industry stakeholders. More than £2,000 were raised for our national charity partner, the Lighthouse Club – The Construction Industry Charity, which offers valuable support to construction workers and their families during times of adversity. Our sincere thanks to all who made the day possible, with special mention to South West President Alli Gay and South West Area Board member Joe Cole.
