A Life Reborn
they learned from us how to respect other people, to be honest, and to be law abiding. I do not think either of them has ever deliberate- ly deceived anyone. I wish for my children and grandchildren, first of all, good health. I want them to be good, fair, and honest people. I want them to be well educated. I am pleased that my grandchildren’s school, the Solomon Schechter School in White Plains, is giving them a good education and an intimate knowledge of Judaism and Jewish values. True success in life is to be a mentsch, a decent person, who tries to do the right thing and does not confine oneself to one’s own little world. Not everyone can climb to great heights. Some do. Some are great writers, some are great musicians, some achieve great things in other ways, but every individual has to do something for the world as a whole. I believe this and try to follow that path, and this is what I want for my children and grandchildren — to use their lives to contribute to the betterment of the world.
