May 3, 1948 that “the mass evacuation, prompted partly by fear, partly by orders of Arab leaders, left the Arab quarter of Haifa a ghost city.... By withdrawing Arab workers, their leaders hoped to paralyze Haifa.” 7 After Haifa and its approach roads had been secured, Yagur was considered a safe place. Indeed, it was not attacked during the war, and the nearest battlefield was six or seven miles away.
