PMMI Delivers 2025 Packaging State Of The Industry BY GREG KISHBAUGH While the U.S. packaging machinery market reached $11.3 billion in sales in 2024, the growth rate forecast for 2025 is just 2.2 percent, according to the 2025 Packaging State of the Industry infographic re- leased by PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Tech-

S&G Creative Adds Gallus One Press

S&G Creative (S&G), a full-service label, pack- aging, and commercial printer based in Tustin, California, is set to install a new Gallus One digital hybrid digital label press from Heidel- berg later this year. Built on the Gallus La-

belmaster platform, the new press combines digital inkjet technology with two flexographic units upstream and downstream, plus cold foil, lamination, and full rotary diecutting. S&G traces its roots to a print brokerage started by co-founder Lee Garriott in 2009. Even as a broker, Garriott had a vision of build- ing a full-service print company with complete in-house capabilities. Teaming up with fellow broker Geoff Schnitzer in 2012, the two grew the business – starting with two small digital presses, moving later into offset printing, and eventually breaking into label production in 2018 with their first flexo press. Today, S&G operates out of a 70,000‑square-foot facility — with an addi- tional facility under construction — offering a complete range of print services, which also includes custom packaging, graphic design, and wide format printing. The Gallus One, combining the strengths of flexographic and digital printing with inline embellishment and finishing, gives S&G the flexibility to handle even long runs efficiently, the company said.

nologies. The Canadian packaging machinery market reached $1.2 bil- lion in sales in 2024 and is predicted to experience a nearly flat growth rate of 0.8 percent this year. Overall, packaging machinery makers are tasked with designing compact equipment to fit existing plant footprints, which can handle delicate materials without damage. The equipment also must be easy to operate and maintain. Other factors affecting the industry include labor challenges, artificial intelligence (AI), sustainability, and changes in U.S. government policies. Hiring and retention challenges continue to be hurdles for OEMs and end users alike, according to PMMI. While AI, automated systems, and data collection can help increase efficiency as companies deal with labor challenges, many end users want to focus on practical appli- cations that can help them solve real problems on the plant floor. One solution is increasing corporate investment in workforce development programs. Predictive maintenance is another tool with the potential to solve manufacturing challenges, but its adoption has been slow, according to PMMI. Many end users are concerned about its cost and are hesitant to move away from existing preventative maintenance routines.
