It’s Science! VOLCANO experiment

Materials Needed: A small plastic cup or container (or shape a volcano from clay or playdough) Baking soda (about 2–3 tablespoons) Vinegar (about cup) A few drops of dish soap (makes it extra bubbly) Food coloring (red/orange for lava) A tray or pan to catch the mess The Science Behind It: This is a chemical reaction between baking soda (a base) and vinegar (an acid). When they mix, they create carbon dioxide gas—that ‛ s the bubbly explosion you see! Just like a real volcano builds up pressure from hot gas inside the Earth, our volcano builds up bubbles from gas too! The gas needs to escape, and boom—an eruption!

Instructions:

1.

Build your volcano Place the cup in the center of a tray. You can build a mountain around it using clay, playdough, or even dirt from outside. Just make sure the top of the cup is open—this is the "crater." Add the ingredients Put baking soda into the cup. Add a squirt of dish soap. Add a few drops of food coloring (red or orange looks like lava!). Time to erupt! Slowly pour vinegar into the cup and watch your volcano ERUPT with fi zzy lava!
