And This Summer Was One for the Books ‘THE BOYS WERE BACK’

Every summer, like clockwork, for the past 20 years, something special happens out here in Montgomery, Texas. The heat rises, the training barns begin to fill, and the air starts to buzz with a kind of energy you just can’t fake. It’s the sound of gloves popping, cleats grinding, and young men chasing greatness with everything they’ve got. As Don Henley once crooned in “The Boys of Summer” — “Nobody on the road, nobody on the beach …” That lyric hits differently when you’re watching a 17-year-old right-hander who drove 1,000 miles to be here, sweat dripping off his brow, grinding through his inside circuit routine while chasing the best version of himself. That’s our version of summer. And if you’re hearing a faint echo of Thin Lizzy in the background … “The boys are back in town” … well, you’re not wrong. Because this summer, the boys were most definitely back. Not just returning athletes, though many did come back wiser, stronger, and more committed. No, I’m talking about the full spirit of the Ranch: The passion.

The camaraderie. The laughter. The breakthroughs. The stories. The failure. The bounce-backs. The swagger. And most of all, the transformation. And maybe the most beautiful part? They did it together. That’s not a side effect, it’s the environment and culture we fight to build here.

Because we know something powerful is about to unfold — again. As the summer sun sets and our fall programs begin, we do so with hearts full of gratitude. Thank you to every athlete who trusted us, to every parent who made the journey, and to every coach who referred a player. You’re why we keep building, evolving, and going against the grain.

From the outside looking in.

To the uninitiated, it’s just a baseball camp. But those who’ve been through it know better. This place is a sanctuary — a lab , yes, but also a tribe . A place where young men can train aggressively, think critically, experiment freely, fail safely, and grow exponentially. And every year around May, when the cars start rolling in and the parking lot starts to fill, we cue the soundtrack in our minds: “The boys are back in town … the boys are back in town …” “I can tell you my love for you will still be strong …”

And don’t worry — next summer’s soundtrack is already queued up. Because the boys will be back. And we’ll be ready.

–Coach Ron Wolforth

WHAT DOES “ELITE” REALLY MEAN AT THE TEXAS BASEBALL RANCH ® ? By Coach Ron Wolforth

To us, “elite” is not a skill set. It’s a mindset . It’s not about where a young man is today. It’s about how he shows up. His desire to grow. His willingness to think differently, to train with intention, to lean into discomfort, and to chase excellence, not just results. When we say “elite,” we’re talking about a young man who’s not satisfied with the status quo. He’s not looking for shortcuts or cookie-cutter answers. He’s hungry for the truth about his development. He’s curious. He’s coachable. He’s willing to be vulnerable and ask hard questions. He may not have it all figured out, and he might still be rough around the edges. That’s perfectly okay. That’s exactly who this event is built for.

Over the years, countless parents have asked us, “My son’s a solid pitcher, but he’s not one of those ‘elite’ kids yet. Is the Elite Pitchers Boot Camp still a good fit? ” It’s a great question, and it deserves a thoughtful answer. At the Texas Baseball Ranch, we always choose our words carefully. So, when we named it the Elite Pitchers Boot Camp , we weren’t referring to a select group of genetically gifted young men already throwing 90+ mph or dominating their age group. That’s how most people define “elite,” based purely on current skill level or performance stats. That’s not how we see it.

So, if you’re a parent wondering whether your son belongs at the EPBC, here’s what we encourage you to consider: Does your son want to separate himself from the mediocre middle? Is he ready to think differently, work differently, and separate himself from the herd…not just with talent, but by intent and commitment? If the answer is yes, then he’s our kind of “elite”. We’ve built this camp, and the entire Ranch experience, for athletes like him. Not the finished product. But the hungry ones. The curious ones. The ones with a fire in their belly and a vision for something more. That’s what we mean when we say “elite.” And that’s who we’re honored to work with.

UPCOMING RANCH EVENTS

YOUNGBLOOD SCORES HITS FOR 2 DIFFERENT TEAMS — ON THE SAME DAY! This Month in Baseball History Joel Youngblood is mostly absent from the record books of Major League Baseball, except for one remarkable feat on Aug. 4, 1982. On that day, Youngblood got hits for two different teams, in two different cities — on the same day! After starting for the New York Mets in an afternoon road game against the Chicago Cubs, Youngblood drove in two runs. On deck for his next at-bat, he was called into the dugout and told he had been traded to the Montreal Expos, who wanted him to play that night in a road game against the Phillies! Youngblood hopped a plane and arrived in Philadelphia in the sixth inning — just in time to step in as a pinch hitter and hit a single. There’s more: Youngblood made both hits off two future Hall of Fame pitchers — Ferguson Jenkins in Chicago and Steve Carlton in Philadelphia! Not a bad day at work, by any measure!

How Variety Can Save Your Gut, Mood, and Meals THE SAME PLATE DEBATE
