“THE FRATERNITY’S VALUES HAVE BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN SHAPING MY APPROACH TO BEING A PROACTIVE ADMINISTRATOR AND VISIONARY LEADER—ALWAYS STRIVING TO INSPIRE POSITIVE CHANGE WITHIN THE UNIVERSITY AND THE LARGER COMMUNITY.”
A key aspect of Dr. Lemelle’s leadership philosophy is mentorship, especially for young African American men at Grambling State. Drawing from his own experiences as an undergrad- uate Polemarch, he believes in the power of mentorship to shape lives and futures. “Mentoring is about empow- ering individuals—guiding them toward growth, helping them navigate life’s challenges, and pushing them toward excellence. As a member of Kappa Alpha Psi®, I learned early that leadership is about service to others, and I take that responsibility seriously, especially with our young men at Grambling,” he shares. Dr. Lemelle’s mentors, including University of Louisiana System President Richard J. Gallot, Jr. (Gamma Psi 1985), have had a profound influ- ence on his journey. “Their wisdom, support, and example were essential in shaping my path. As I move forward in my own leadership, I am committed to offering the same guidance and support to others,” he says. His own commit- ment to mentorship is a testament to the core values of Kappa Alpha Psi,
where service to others and a dedica- tion to fostering growth are paramount.
THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNITY AND SERVICE For Dr. Lemelle, the concept of giving back is foundational—both as a member of the fraternity, and as the President of Grambling State University. “Kappa Alpha Psi instilled in me the importance of service and philanthropy. I see it as a responsibil- ity to use my platform to encourage others to serve their communities and make a positive impact,” he affirms. This philosophy is not only central to his personal values but also shapes his leadership at the university, where he fosters a culture of social responsibility and civic engagement. Dr. Lemelle also credits his family for keeping him grounded as he navigates his leadership role. “My family has been a source of unwavering support throughout my career. I’m a third-generation Grambling State alumnus, and my parents’ careers in higher education have provided me with a steady foundation. They’ve

taught me humility and resilience, which are critical qualities as I step into this leadership role. A VISION FOR GRAMBLING STATE’S FUTURE As the newly appointed President, Dr. Lemelle’s vision is clear; to blend the institution’s rich history with forward-thinking strategies that ensure academic excellence and innovation. “Our vision for Grambling State is rooted in tradition, but it is also focused on innovation, inclusion, and impact.
