Patrick K. Brown 1961-2024 Educator, Pastor

Brother Patrick Brown is survived by his wife; two sons, Paxton Kyle Brown and Presley Kade Brown; four sisters, Eva Wilson (John), Shelia Williams, Jolene Mor- rison (Kyron) and Felicia Wilson; a brother, Thomas Brown; four beautiful grand- children, Kashton, Michael, Paisleigh and Logan; two sis- ters-in-love, Georgia Maria Brown and Betty Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Odessa and Velma Brown Smith; a sister, Charlene Brown; two brothers, Pastor Dessie “Slack” Brown and John “J. R.” Brown; a son, Perrin Keith Brown and a daugh- ter, Drake Marion Brown. ♦

P atrick K. Brown (Eta Phi 1983), 62, entered the Chapter Invisible on Monday, July 15, 2024. Patrick Keith Brown, the sixth of nine children, was born in Jacobia, TX to Odessa and Velma Brown on August 22, 1961. He received his formal edu- cation from schools in the Greenville Independent School District. As a student and athlete, he received many accolades and awards for his character and skill both on and off the field.

After high school gradua- tion, he attended Harding University in Searcy, AR. Later, Brown transferred to East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Univer- sity-Commerce), earning a BA degree in education. Upon graduating, Patrick’s first teaching position was in his hometown of Green- ville, TX. On December 16, 1989, Brown and the love of his life, the former Donna Felecia Morris were married and were blessed to parent

two sons, Paxton Kyle and Presley Kade. As “Coach Brown” coaching journey continued, his family was there to support and follow him to a few cities. Later in life he would answer the call of ministry. On July 14, 2019, Brown was installed as the pastor of the Sixteenth Street Bap- tist Church and was elated to be their leader. Pastor Brown was a faithful, ded- icated, and devout servant until the last day.

Hon. Herman G. Canady, Jr. 1936-2024 Circuit Court Judge

R etired jurist the (Charleston (WV) AL 1963) entered the Chapter Invisible on June 12, 2024, at 87. Canady was born on December 18, 1936, in Charleston, WV, the Honorable Herman G. Canady, Jr.

second child of Dr. Herman George Canady, Ph.D. (Theta 1926), and Julia Witten Canady. Judge Maryclaire Akers has requested a black drape cover the entrance of the Kanawha County Judicial Building in his

memory. “Judge Canady was a wonderful person and a respected jurist,” Akers said. “He will be deeply missed by all of us.” Canady attended State High School in Institute, WV. Canady was the first African American student

to attend Charleston High School. He earned a B.A. from Northwestern University and a law degree from the West Virginia University College of Law where he was the second African American student
