Harold L. Martin 1978-2024 Grammy Award Winning Musician

He attended the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, earning a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and became a Therapist and Counselor in the Las Vegas Community. Preceded in death by his parent, Brother William L. Hoflord is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Frank Townsend; four children, Monica D.H Jones, Jason C., Krystle E.A.H. ( Jermaine )Johnson, and Kimberly S.F.; seven grandchildren: Brigetta, Amber, Heaven, Hannah, and Hayden, and two great-grandchildren: Alijah and Adriana. ♦

A rtist, producer, songwriter, per- former, and multiple GRAMMY® Award winner, Snarky Puppy, Harold L. “Shaun” Martin (Dallas (TX) AL 2011) entered the Chapter Invisible on August 3, 2024. Martin was known for collaborating with gospel music artist Kirk Franklin and the jazz ensemble Snarky Puppy. Martin also worked with artists Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Yolanda Adams, and Kim Burrell. Harold LaShaun Martin was born to Harold and Novella Martin on August 23, 1978, in Arlington, TX. He attended schools in the Dallas (TX) Independent School District, where he developed an interest in music. Martin played the drums and piano at four years old and his mother found a music teacher who taught him to read and write music. At age five, Martin was playing the piano and organ at church. Later, he learned to play trumpet, trombone, tuba,

In 1979, he graduated Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell A.F.B., Alabama then assumed duties as Chief, Command and Control Systems, Interoperability Division, Headquarters Pacific Air Command, Hickam A.F.B., Hawaii. Colonel Holford served with the 963rd Airborne Warning and Control Squadron as a Mission Crew Commander and Mission Operations Deputy. He was on staff as Chief, E-3/EC-135 Requirements Division in the Operations and Requirements Directorate, 28th Air Division, Tinker A.F.B., Oklahoma City, Okla. He flew missions and duty in Iceland and Saudi Arabia during this service. His last three major leadership assignments came when he was selected to Command the 325th Weapons Controller Training Squadron, Tyndall A.F.B., Panama

French horn, and flute. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where he studied under Bart Marantz, a teacher and mentor. While in high school, Martin began working with gospel choir director Kirk Franklin and later became his music director. He continued his musical education at Weatherford College and the University of North Texas (UNT), where he earned a BA degree in music. While at UNT, Martin worked with singer Erykah Badu on her second album, Mama’s Gun. At UNT, he also joined a group of student musicians to create Snarky Puppy, a jazz fusion band. Snarky Puppy would win five Grammy
