Jon “J.R.” Meyers 1962-2024 Attorney, Political Strategist/Lobbyist
Awards. Martin himself has won seven Grammys: three as a Snarky Puppy member and four for his work with Franklin. “It’s pretty awesome,” Martin said in 2017. “I never really set out to make music to win Grammys. I set out to make music to have fun. I enjoy playing music and seeing that somebody’s face is smiling.” In addition to his pro- ducing and recording for several artists, Martin served as minister of music at Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas. In 2015, Martin released his debut solo album 7 Summers , representing the seven years he spent working on his project. He released two more solo albums fusing jazz, gospel, and R&B contemporary music. Brother Harold L. “Shaun” Martin is survived by his wife Monica (née Wilson) Martin, son Harlem; his par- ents, and a host of relatives, friends, musician colleagues, and fans. On September 14, 2024, Erykah Badu and Norah Jones headline a commem- orative benefit contest called The Friends Of Shaun Martin to honor the late Grammy Award-winning piano extraordinaire and support his legacy. ♦
A beloved husband, father, son, brother, friend, and commu- nity leader Jon “J.R.” Meyers (Pi 1981), entered the Chapter Invisible on July 27, 2024. A native of San Fran- cisco, Jon Raymond Meyers was born November 20, 1962, at Andrews Air Force Base, MD. With his father in the U.S. Air Force, Meyers lived in different parts of the country and Okinawa, Japan. He attended grade school in San Francisco and graduated from San Fran- cisco’s St. Ignatius College Prep. He earned in 1984 a BA in psychology from Morehouse College. He later earned a J.D. degree in 1997 fromMercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law. In 2012, Meyers and his wife, Karen Mays Meyers,
