Starting/Charging System Testing: The starting/charging system is vital to your trucks operation, and when not functioning prop- erly can cause expensive breakdown events. It is a good practice to test your entire system a minimum of once a year, if not more often de- pending on your individual maintenance needs. Testing the entire starting/charging system consist of not just the batteries, but also the alternator, starter, and all associated cabling. While your system may seem to be operating fine today, a loss of just 0.25 - 0.5VDC across a con- nection will cause additional stress on the sys- tem. Once one component in the system isn’t operating properly, it has a domino effect, caus- ing added stress on the rest of the system.
