Even though Haitian Creole is the fifth most common native language of multilingual learners, few teachers have access to high-quality books about Haitian American culture. So we partnered with Jamie Hector, Haitian American actor and storyteller , to curate a collection of some of the best children’s books on Haitian culture and history to add to your classroom libraries!

Jamie Hector is a Brooklyn-born actor who studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. He is best known for his role as Marlo Stanfield on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire. Some of Jamie’s more recent work include Bosch , Queen of the South , and We Own
“Dad, I know what’s wrong with Butter!” says Chloé. Butter’s dish is filled with Sajés’s favorite sugary cereal. Her water dish has a juice box in it. “MEOW!” says Butter.
“And we would want good cat food to eat,” says Chloé. They look at Butter’s food dish.
“Check,” says Sajés. “Oh, no!” cries Chloé. “Oh, no!” cries Dad.

He has also authored several children’s books with Scholastic, which will be included in the collection.
