The exhibition “Orient-Hermès “ at the Institut du Monde Arabe (IMA) pays homage to Leïla Menchari, who, since 1977, has been the creator of the Hermès window displays at 24 Faubourg Saint-Honoré. In eight unique settings, this exhibition showcases some of Leïla Menchari’s major creations for Hermès. Inspired by memories of her childhood in Tunisia, her travels and her experiences, Leïla Menchari creates miniature theatres that highlight the skills of the craftsmen and artists of the Mediterranean. Throughout the exhibition a mosaic maker, a coppersmith, a glassmaker, a stonecutter, a rush mat maker and a Hermès saddler will take turns to demonstrate their craft
WHAT happens when the artisans of the Orient intertwine their craftsmanship with the epitome of luxury and opulence? A question that Leïla Menchari, Window Display Director at Hermès, has found an answer to, albeit with an experience that spans thousands of miles around the globe and more than three decades of living the joi de vivre of Hermès.
