FTA Forum Sessions To Focus On Redefining Flexo’s Limits

Biopax Addresses Sustainability With Flexo Machine Biopax Ltd, a sustainable packaging and labels firm in Northern Ireland, has introduced a rotary flexographic pa- per wraps printing and packing machine at its facility. For years, the demand for paper-wrapped food prod- ucts in the UK and Ireland has relied on imports from Asia and Europe, according to the company, but Biopax’s latest multi-million-pound investment will reportedly boost the domestic paper wraps supply by more than 500 million units per year, significantly reducing the need for imported products. The company reports annual growth rates of more than 25 percent in on-the-go, pharmaceutical, and quick-ser- vice restaurant products.

A trio of sessions at FORUM & INFOFLEX 2024—May 5-8 in Kansas City, Missouri—will reportedly emphasize the nuts and bolts of the flexographic workflow, redefine flexography’s limits with today’s possibilities, and offer a 411 helpline to solve the most challenging production problems. In “ Redefining the Limits of Flexographic Printing ,” at- tendees will see how to elevate their flexographic oper- ations by implementing today’s technologies and pro- cesses, backed by an understanding of flexographic fundamentals. The session takes place Monday, May 6, and is chaired by Rory Marsoun of Esko and Kenny Tucker of Clemson University. “ Flexo 411: Your Flexographic Helpline ” gives the chance to ask questions to a panel of industry experts and devel- op contacts to reach out to for future questions. The ses- sion takes place Tuesday, May 7, and is chaired by Berry Global’s Megan Burns and DuPont’s Brad Gasque. Examine the interdependency of plates, inks, tapes and anilox rolls, and how they contribute to the final print out- come, in “ Nuts and Bolts of Your Flexographic Workflow. ” The session takes place Wednesday, May 8, and is chaired by Scott McLeod of TC Transcontinental and Becky Bunch of MacDermid Graphics Solutions.

Biopax provides supply chain solutions for plastic-free, recyclable, and compostable fibre-based packaging. Biopax’s paper wraps will also meet sustainability goals, offering recyclability, re-pulpability and compostability, while maintaining a barrier performance against hot foods, salads, and sauces, thanks to plant-based grease barrier coatings. StarPak Tests MacDermid’s Renewable Flexo Plate Process MacDermid Graphics Solutions has developed a new process called PlateCycle to recycle flexographic printing plates. This patent-pending technology has started trials in North America. Five Star Holding confirmed that StarPak is participating in the effort as a Beta site. “At StarPak, we believe that environmental responsibility, convenience for retailers and performance for our custom- ers should go hand in hand,” said Luis Rivas, Sales Direc- tor, Client Engagement.
