 MATCH LETTERS Write your child’s name, or other words, in uppercase letters. Then write each word with lowercase letters. Ask your child to identify each letter. “Let’s name and match the letters.”

LITERACY Standard: Retells Stories

SOCIAL STUDIES Standard: Understands Community and Roles  TELL WHAT THEY DO When you walk through your community, point out the people who work there. “There is Mr. Perez, who works at the market. How does he help people?”; “There is Ms. Jackson, the crossing guard. How does she help children?” HEALTH & SAFETY Standard: Develops Healthy Habits  FUEL GROWTH At family meals, fill half your plates with fruits and vegetables. Seek out whole grains for at least half your grains. Most children should drink skim or 1% milk; confirm your child’s needs with your pediatrician. Vary your protein food choices.

 RETELL STORIES After reading a story once or twice, invite your child to look at the pictures and use the pictures to retell the story in her or his own words.

MATH Standard: Tells Time

 USE A CLOCK Ask your child to tell the time on a digital clock. Begin with time on the hour (such as 11:00). After your child is comfortable with those times, introduce telling time on the half hour (11:30).
