tant. But when you focus on local, tangible issues that peo- ple can see and feel, you build momentum. In other words, progress doesn’t just come from better solutions. It comes from better engagement. SPC Impact always surfaces what’s coming next, and this year, one innovation stood out. PulPac’s fiber-based medicine bottle challenges one of the most entrenched packaging formats: the amber plastic pill bottle. With a re- cyclable paper design and a child-resistant cap that per- forms on par with plastic, it’s more than a product innova- tion; it’s an indication. It shows that even the most established formats aren’t off-limits. And that the industry is starting to rethink not just materials, but assumptions. Beyond the sessions, SPC Impact remains one of the most valuable places to connect. From PPC members like Tony Petrelli of Paperworks, Neal Haussel of Holmen Board & Paper, and Patrick Smith of Smurfit Westrock to partners across organizations such as AF&PA and RPA, the conversations happening outside the sessions are just as important as those on stage. If there was one takeaway from SPC Impact 2026, it’s this: The industry is making progress—but not through breakthroughs alone. Through alignment, iteration, and people who are willing to stay engaged, even when the path forward isn’t simple. That’s what realistic optimism looks like. And it’s what will keep the industry advancing into the future. PPC Hosts Semiannual Folding Carton Bootcamp The Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) hosted its Fold- ing Carton Boot Camp May 12-13 at PPC headquarters in Springfield, Massachusetts, united attendees from across the folding carton industry for a two-day immersion of ed- ucation, discussion, and professional development. PPC President Emily Leonczyk, MBA, CAE, welcomed attendees and emphasized the value of investing in peo- ple and strengthening industry engagement. Kyra Slocum, PPC’s Membership Director, spoke about the role the association plays in connecting individuals across companies and job functions, helping newer pro- fessionals build relationships and grow within the indus- try. Tom Hendrickson, PPC’s Industry Affairs Manager, was also present to provide an overview of current policy and regulatory developments impacting the paperboard pack- aging sector, including extended producer responsibility (EPR) and other evolving legislation. Boot Camp serves as a valuable training opportunity for employees new to folding cartons, as well as individu- als looking to expand their understanding of the business. The next Boot Camp is scheduled for November 17-18, 2026. Visit paperbox.org to learn more.
