Woodvale Construction adopted an innovative and flexible response to deliver social value while following Public Health advice due to Covid-19. It was achieved in this project through a partnership approach to ensure the social value of the project was delivered in a meaningful way. It was a core element from the whole project team including the architect, design team and subcontractors on site. The new City Cemetery visitor centre is part of a £2.8m heritage project which aims to protect and enhance the existing legacy of the cemetery. It also seeks to ensure current and future generations are able to access and understand its fascinating history. WINNER: GRAHAM BAM HEALTHCARE PARTNERSHIP RVH, NEW MATERNITY HOSPITAL
Judges were impressed by GRAHAM BAM’s early adoption of measures to minimise and reuse waste during the Royal Victoria Hospital’s new Maternity Hospital project which has resulted in 98% of all waste being diverted from landfill so far, and less than half the expected amount of construction waste generated. And a concerted effort was made to ensure that mature trees on site were protected and retained to enhance the surrounding environment and maintain it biodiversity. Judges praised efforts to mitigate climate control and carbon reduction with the installation of 111 solar panels covering almost 200m 2 of the building’s roof which produce an output capacity of around 8,350kWh per year.
